Magic

Magic can be used by taking up one of the following skills. Each skill has a unique set of spells that will have unique effects.

  • White Magic: Focuses on lightning, ice, healing and defensive magic.
  • Black Magic: Focuses on fire, dark and aggressive spells.
  • Necromancy: Focuses on undead and life draining magic.
  • Prayer: Focuses primarily on holy, healing and protection spells.
  • Druidry: No focus, but provides a variety spells in all areas but not as powerful as the other skills that focus on specific areas.

Magic: Adding Spells

Spells can be learned through the use of scrolls. When you find a spell scroll, you can double click on them to “learn” them if you have the associated skill. When you learn a new spell it will appear in your spell book (accessible from the equipment doll or by pressing the “B” hot key). You can click on the spell name text (not the spell icon) to access a spell description, requirements and a list of ingredients needed (called reagents) to cast that spell. You can get back to the spell book index of any spell skill by clicking on the skill icon marker in the book.

You may also find special “etched” staff or wand weapons in your journeys that allow you to cast spells without having learned a spell from a scroll or having reagents for the spell.

Magic: Casting Spells

Clicking on the spell icon will cause your character to cast that spell, if you have the ingredients and meet the spell’s minimum casting requirements such as skill and knowledge for example. Different spells have different effects, so reading the description of what specific spells do can be helpful before casting them. Many spells will require a target to be selected which can be done just like any other target in the game. While it’s not bad to have to click the spell icon in the book for spells you cast less frequently, for frequently used spells you may want an easier way... (See action bar)
