Early Access Release To Steam!

Date: 08/11/2025
By: Chris The Avatar

I am excited to bring Gravebind into Early Access marking a new phase in its development! Over the past two years I have spent much time building out the gaming engine and with the help of Deco Games as well as friends and family, the game has been able to reach this point and while we still have a long way to go with the development of the game, I wanted to pause to say thank you to everyone who helped with bringing Gravebind into existence. So, thank you to all of you who helped! Also a special thank you to PV Games for graphical assets, Eric Bowser for great music, and the other artists and musicians published work on GameDevMarket place.

Please check out our Game Manual on specific features listed below.

Here are the key features we released for early access:

  1. We’ve built out a playable single player game while laying the foundation and framework for the future multiplayer modes of Gravebind.
  2. Customizable male and female characters that visually reflect what you equip along with two ridable mounts with more mounts to come.
  3. There are the beginnings of a story you can follow, and we have put together 10 quests that you can go through. We have made a walkthrough guide available in our online game manual.
  4. We have built a guided open world feel that allows you to unlock more and more areas as you progress through the quests. As you unlock areas, they are open for you to explore and hold purpose even after quests are completed. Aside from the small portion of the main world to explore, we have completed 1.5 levels of the crypts, 2 levels of mines to explore, a spider cave and a dynamic area where goblin camps spawn. A small town is near complete with most of a larger city also built out.
  5. We have a leveling system and a skill gain system in place with lots of combat, magic and other adventure skills to pick from.
  6. There are nearly 30 spells across five different skills. Still plenty more to come as well.
  7. There are over 40 different creatures to do combat with. Again still plenty more to come here as well.
  8. Over 50 different pieces of armor.
  9. Over 30 different weapons.
  10. You have the ability to adjust difficulty on a world by world basis with numerous settings from tweaking things like magic weapon drop rate, to quest difficulty.
  11. Hours of dialog have been written and dramatized speech has been generated for the majority of it and while some voices still need more refinement, we hope that you find this adds to the enjoyable experience of game play.
  12. We’ve built a currency system that supports multiple coin types while keeping it simple for players to follow that adds both function and flavor.
  13. A Banking system has been implemented with the ability to store additional items and share items between characters.
  14. Weve provided numerous quality of life improvements based on the early alpha testing feedback like providing options for automatic corpse opening and automatic door opening.
  15. We’ve implemented magic weapons (with armor to come soon) and other enhancements like sharpening, consecration, and fortification.
  16. We’ve implemented a material system for armor and weapons, though most found so far are copper and iron this leads into our crafting system for allowing players to craft weapons and armor with different material attributes and colors.
  17. We have mining and lumberjacking mostly implemented.
  18. Built a day/night system where shops close, npcs go to different places at day vs night, and different events happen at different times of the day.
  19. In game tutorial to take you through the basics of the game.
  20. 20. We’ve added some support for Spanish and hope to add more languages before long. We believe we have about 85% of the game text translated for players to enjoy.

There are also a lot of areas we want to focus effort improving on that wasn’t as refined as what we wanted for the first early access release:

  1. Better portraits for npcs and players. The ones currently in use are place holders, and while we have made an effort to improve some of them, they are not quite the right style we want but before we get someone to work on them by hand, we want to complete the key npcs for the first part of the game so the style is consistent.
  2. Some voices in the game are very good while others need improved and this is something we will continue to work at as technology changes and different services become available.
  3. NPC intelligence and movement has improved since the first days of alpha but there is still more work to be done in this area as npcs still get stuck on occasion or make repeated bad movements. This is another area we will spend some time improving; in fact I envision this as an item that is constantly being refined.
  4. We also want make it so town NPCs are observant of your negative activities in town when they are around you. So when you try to break barrels/crates or pick locks in front of them they warn you then alert the guards if you are seen again. This behavior will be coming sooner rather than later.

So what will I be working on next in terms of development aside from the items mentioned above:

  1. One of my next key focuses will be crafting and a work order system, I will likely be starting with Blacksmithing and Carpentry first then start on tailoring/leatherworking, alchemy and stonework.
  2. I will begin work on our multiplayer server, most of the code that I have already written is setup to be plug and play with this, its just a matter of writing the part of software that is responsible for holding and tracking maps/objects differently than what single player does. I hope to start on this mid fall and have something for players to try at some point in the winter.
  3. I will continue to expand game content, Npcs/Spells/Items/Quests etc…
  4. New areas will be added like an Orc Fort, West Brimstone contested town with a treasury quest, Iron Forge and more expansions to existing areas like the crypts.
  5. Improved control over NPC followers, like summoned skeletons or your mount.
  6. Single player death mode setting for requiring reloading from prior save.
  7. Magic armor will be added. Many of the mechanics have already been defined and it’s a matter of implementing them.
  8. Custom housing will likely come after we get crafting and some multiplayer functionality done.

These are the key items we will be focusing on next. There are additional items on our early access list as well but this is what we will focus on first. We will shoot to do new feature releases every 4 – 6 weeks but if we are working on a major feature it might take a little longer. I will update the development boards this week and you can follow my progress. Thanks for reading. If you have any questions, want to let us know about issues, or just want to discuss future changes/possibilities, please use our Discord channel to contact us.

We look forward to having you all with us as we develop Gravebind!

Alpha 6 Release Ready For Internal Group

Date: 03/28/2025
By: Chris The Avatar

Alpha 6 has been released to our closed list of players today… The highlights of this release include the following:

Spells And Magic Skills

·        The update includes an implementation of the Prayer and Black Magic by providing at least 3 spells for those skills.

o   Prayer – Consecrate Weapon

o   Prayer – Holy Light

o   Prayer – Bless

o   Black Magic – Haste

o   Black Magic – Set Aflame

o   Black Magic – Dark Feedback

o   Black Magic – Fireball

·        Necromancy, White Magic and Druidry also received additional spells.

o   Necromancy – Rot

o   Necromancy – Animate Bones

o   White Magic – Energy Bolt

o   Druidry – Magic Arrow

·        Purchasing for magic spell scrolls can be done at the following locations:

o   Black Magic / Necromancy – Witch in the woods

o   White Maigc – Scribe in Brimstone

o   Druidry – Scribe in Brimstone and Druids at Myststone

o   Prayer – Reverend at the old stone church

o   Note some spells may need to be found from scrolls by monsters but I don’t think there are many of these yet.

Banking System

·        The first bank in the game is available to store items in, head to the Brimstone city center and talk to the banker there. Ask to go to your vault. You will be taken to a secure room where you can access your bank box and store up to 100 items. These items can be transferred across any of your characters in that same world by accessing the bank on them. Using the bank in the future is a good way to keep some of your items safe from loss when you die.

·        To exit your bank vault just open the door, you will be taken back to the bank lobby. Note you should not put any objects on the floor in the bank vault that you want to keep, the next time you go to your vault, you are not necessarily taken back to the same vault room.

·        Bankers can also convert currency from copper ßà silver ßà gold to condense and save inventory space if desired.

Mapping Updates and New Areas

·        City of Brimstone is mostly structurally done. I am still working on getting details and merchants in shops but the Bank, Enchanter and Scribe are present in the city. This area is available to travel to by following the road south till you come to its walls.

·        Mystic Woodland forest just above Brimstone is available to explore, this is where the witch resides and the area is relevant to the side quest that has been added this release. There are numerous creatures including wolves, bears and spiders…but I am still adding a couple more creature types to this area. So you can expect that in a follow up release.

·        Crypt has a new area that spawns skeleton mages on the first floor. I will continue to fill in more of the area and add a small floor next release. More secret passages will be available then.

·        A new spider lair is available through a burnt down house in the mystic woodland. It is part of the moon rose quest but like most areas in the game can be openly explored anytime. Widow Spider, Spiderling and Widow Queen creatures can all be found here.

·        Myststone, a druid sanctuary has been added just north east of the city of Brimstone. A side road can take you there.

·        Unfortunately, I have not updated the mini-maps yet to be inclusive of the new areas. This is mainly because the mini-map system is time consuming to update. They will certainly get an update next release after I add one more area to the mines. Below is raw minimap though for reference of testing in the mean time:

Quest(s)

·       Moon Rose quest was added. This quest can be started after the first blood moon (after the gravedigger’s quest and the blood moon appears that evening) by talking with Lily the Innkeeper in dragonhead village. She will then send you to talk to Morganna the witch in the woods. The quest contains two major parts of collecting Widow Sap from the Widow’s lair in the abandoned house mentioned above, obtaining a rose and then participating in a battle in the cemetery. This is a much more lengthy and difficult quest than the prior quests, its considered a side quest but does give you more insight into the story line. You may need to gain additional levels before being able to complete it. The spider lair can be especially difficult.

Changes Related to Items

·       Magic Rings and Amulets were added. Rings and Amulets will boost stats and skills in various ways (rings tend to boost stats one way while amulets will boost another). The most common place to find these are off of undead currently. A future note: Magic rings and amulets will eventually require attunement points which are not added yet and the intention of these points will be to limit the amount of magic/weapons armor power that you have equipped. An attunement skill will also be added.

·       Auto-piling should work better when dragging items to your inventory. There is still some work to do be done with the Take All Button when your bag is full and it properly checking piles in your inventory.

·       Spear weapons mistakenly used axe fighting as their skill instead of sword fighting (straight blades). This has been fixed.

·       Metal buckler now is named appropriately. Before it was called wooden buckler.

·       Repair costs have been reduced.

·       Many items were moved off the provisioner onto the scribe, witch and enchanter.

Newly added monsters/creatures/npcs

·        Wolf: Low/Mid level melee animal found in mystic woodland. Will eventually drop fur.

·        Bear: Mid level melee animal found in mystic woodland. Will eventually drop fur.

·        Skeleton Mage: Low level black magic caster, can be found in the crypt.

·        Lich: Mid level black magic/necromancy caster can be found in the crypt though its location on level 1 is currently temporary.

·        Ghost: Mid level white magic caster, currently only appears as part of the moon rose quest but will be added to crypts in next release. Note these can only be harmed by magic and magical/consecrated wepaons.

·        Widow Spiderling: Low level, Found in mystic woodland forest and the widow lair. Low poison level.

·        Withering Widow: Mid level, Found in the widow spider lair. Mid poison level.

·        Widow Queen: High level, Found in the widow spider lair. High level poison. Shoots web that can paralyze you for a short time.

·        Horses of different styles were added to the game. When you purchase a horse, the style will be generated randomly.

·        Merchant types of scribe, enchanter and banker were added (These new types can be found in Brimstone)

Graphics

·        The game will automatically scale to the window size of the game now.

·        Rendering performance has been improved for the map contents.

·        Some Terrain now have shadows (Trees/Bushes/Statues/etc… ). Some shadows may still be a little bit off and I will fix them as I find them.

·        Characters now have shadows.

·        A rendering issue where mounts and characters would clip through roofs/ceilings should largely be fixed.

Game Controls/Game Play

You can change any of the hot key bindings in options under hotkey settings.

·        Open/Close Spell Book Hot Key binding added. (Default is ‘B’)

·        Open/Close Stats/Skills Hot Key binding added. (Default is ‘S’)

·        Open/Close Quests Hot Key binding added. (Default is ‘Q’)

·        You can now control NPC companions such as animate bones skeletons or a mount by double clicking on it and clicking on a target. Clicking on a tile will tell the controlled NPC to go to that tile. Clicking on an enemy NPC will instruct it to attack and follow that enemy. Clicking on yourself will instruct it to follow you. Still some more work to be done in this area but this should give you the basics.

·        Mounting and dismounting a horse must now only be done with the Mouse Wheel. Prior to this release you could double click it to mount.

UI

·        Armor defenses are now available when hovering over armor items.

·        Shop item details are now available when hovering over items in the shop. Some items may still need additional specifics added.

·        A bug was fixed that causing a crash when selling items then going to repair another item.

Other Notes

·        Next release (Alpha 7) will be our last closed Alpha release. Following the next release I am planning on doing future alpha/beta releases on Steam as Early Access.

·        Next release (Alpha 7) will add one additional quest and focus on filling content in areas, adding a female playable character, completing combat related skills and adding a few more spells.  We will also try to provide a tutorial at game start.

·        I will no longer be updating the Alpha guide, though I will provide it with this and next release for past information in it is still at least partially relevant. I will work on updating FAQ and a how to guide with information going forward.

Welcome to the Gravebind.Online site, this is our first development post on the site and we are excited to bring you news on future updates to the Gravebind RPG/MMORPG game here here! You can follow along on what we are currently working on in the Coming Soon section above and the In Development sections.

The Coming Soon section contains features that will be included in the next release, while In Development features may or may not be in the next release or may be partially released. These sections are hooked directly to our development boards so they are updated in real time.

We are shooting to get the next Alpha release out to our Alpha group of players in early March.

We are still working on this site, especially the FAQ and home page site pages, for now we have posted some general information and early screenshots. We do hope to have a discord up in the next couple of months as well once we are closer to an early access release on Steam. You can get an idea about what we have planned for Gravebind on the About page of our site.
