Quest 3: Escort Miners

How To Start The Quest

This quest is available after finding the lost boy (quest 1). As news had made its way around town about you finding the boy, the miners thought it would be a good idea to get an escort through the mines, given all the sightings and rumors about shadowy figures in the mines, so they spoke to Naven the mining guildmaster and he has work for you to do! Head over to the mining guild hall, during the day, its just beside the blacksmith in the taller side of the building.

Once there speak with Naven the mining guildmaster. He will state that he has heard about your good deeds, and ask you to escort the miners, you can banter with him a little bit about why he isn’t getting help from guards or letting you take the miner’s in deeper into the mines to get more back story; but ultimately you will need to agree to take them to advance the story state. Once you agree to take them, you’ll need to meet the miner’s in town at the mine entrance when your ready.

Before You Take Them

Be sure to take ample bandages or healing salve if you have the healing skill, and/or reagents (if you’re a spell caster) before embarking on this quest. This will be important as you will need to get the miner’s health up from spawned creatures while they mine.

Once You’re In The Mines

Follow the miners… While following them they won’t get attacked, so I recommend clearing any enemies you come across, instead of letting them latch on and follow you. Eventually they’ll come to a place where they want to mine (The first place isn’t far from the entrance). While they are mining various creatures will spawn, at the first stop it’s just one creature at a time and at a slow pace. Clear each monster that spawns and keep the miners healed if the creature attacks one of them.

Once the creatures are cleared, the miners will let you know that it’s time to move onto the next mining location. Follow them to the next location and repeat the process of defending, healing and clearing the spawned creatures. The second time the monsters will spawn a little faster but still one at a time. After clearing them once more the miners will let you know that there is one more location that you need to go to.

On the last location, spawns will be a little bit faster and spawn up to two creatures making it a little tougher, try to get the monsters on yourself by standing between the miners when possible. Once you have cleared all of the monsters at the last location, the miners will be getting ready to head back to town when a “earthquake” occurs and is quick to state that its actually blasting beneath you. They will then ask you to guide them back to town out of the mines. So just like with the boy, guide them out of the mines.

At any point, if one of the miner’s health gets too low then they will flee and you will fail the quest and must retry. So be swift in healing them and killing the monsters. If you do fail its not a big deal! Try to gain a level or two before trying again and raising your combat skills making your attacks more accurate.

Tip: It can be helpful to have names showing when the miners are busy mining. You can use “N” key to toggle showing all names. You may also need to utilize the transparency function “T” to see behind mountains as well to keep the miners healed. Also don’t forget you can target with the keyboard with bandages or spells; just press the number beside the name when the target comes up.

Back In Town

Once your back in town after the mining expedition, go and talk to Naven, he should be in the miners guild (or just arriving; give him a few seconds to show up). He will ask how the mining expedition went and you can tell him you have safely returned with the miners. The miners will spend the rest of the discussion speaking about the blasting which Naven will dismiss as gas explosions or tremors.

At the end of the conversation, Naven will offer you silver coins, regardless of whether your satisfied that is all Naven will give you. So in this case of dialog your response does not matter. Once accepting the coin, he will set you up for the next quest at the guard tower just below the tavern. If you go by there during the day, you will notice the captain of the guard asking you to halt.
